Socialive allows Producers to capture device recordings from participants in the Green Room. These recordings are uploaded automatically when the participant leaves the session, ensuring a high-quality video is captured, regardless of network conditions. This article explains how a Producer can start and stop device recordings for Guests in the Green Room.
Capturing a Guests Device Recording as a Producer
Once a guest has joined the Green Room and is ready to begin their device recording, follow the steps below to start and stop their Device Recording on their behalf:
On the Live Sources panel, hover over the guest and click the Options icon at the top-right corner.
Select Start Recording
This will start a high-quality ISO recording on their device.
To also capture a composite recording, you will still need to select Start in the bottom right corner of the studio.
Once the recording is complete, navigate to the options icon again and select Stop Recording to end the recording.
When the guest is ready to leave the session, they must select Leave Now for the recordings to be uploaded to the Socialive Recordings Library. Guests can also prompt the recordings to be uploaded while they’re in the green room by clicking the menu arrow next to the record button, clicking “my recordings,” and selecting “upload” next to the recording(s).
Considerations
Local device recordings only include that guest's audio and video. Name tags, layouts, and branding elements will not be captured but can be added using the Socialive Editor.
Although device recordings circumvent network conditions, causing poor video quality, they require additional CPU power to record. Guests should follow best practices, such as closing other applications and unnecessary tabs to limit CPU strain.
The Socialive App for Android does not support producer-initiated device recordings, and guests must start the recording from their device.
Local device recordings on iOS default to 1080p unless the speaker changes the option to 4k
You can do this by tapping the Record icon on the right-hand panel and selecting 4k from the Select Recording Quality options.
