When to use Studio or Editor for content creation

Socialive is the fastest and most cost-effective way for anyone to record, edit, publish, and livestream professional videos at scale.

Depending on the type of content being created, you may ask yourself should I use Studio or Editor? This article provides recommendations for using Studio or Editor for editing and content creation.

Studio

Studio is the main content creation area of Socialive. This area allows you to livestream or create a recording for later use. We recommend using Studio for the following purposes.

  • Livestream content

  • Pre-recorded content that includes more than one scene

  • Producer-led group recordings

  • Clip larger (3+ hour) recordings* reach out to Support or your CSM for this feature

Editor

The Editor is the interface where Admins, Broadcasters, and Creators can take recorded content from the Studio or the Recording Booth and edit it. Creating a single high-quality video with an intro, outro, branding, nametags, and logos is easy and quick with the Socialive Editor. We recommend using Editor for the following purposes.

  • Short (1 hour or less) video content

  • Applying presets to short snackable video content

  • Editing a single video recording

  • Self-recorded content

Additional notes when using Editor

  • When creating recording booth content, it can be edited in either the Studio or the Editor. The advantage of using the editor is that you get both sources automatically with a preset layout so that it doesn’t need to be done "manually," as would be done in the studio.

  • In Editor, overlays are the visual job the assets are displaying in the recording, any media asset in the space can be selected as this visual. In Studio, the overlay is both the job the asset is doing in the run of show. In Studio, there is an account-specific pool of layout assets from which to choose.
