Add Subtitles to Your Videos in the Socialive Editor

In the Socialive Editor, you can embed subtitles into your videos. Embedding subtitles include the following benefits:

  • Embedded subtitles help make videos accessible.

  • Search engines can process the written text in embedded subtitles, which can help improve a video's SEO.

  • Embedded subtitles can help keep viewers engaged, especially when watching a video without sound.

This article will review how to embed and edit subtitles in the Socialive Editor.

Enable Subtitles

  1. In the Editor, click Layers.

  1. Toggle on Enable Subtitles.

  1. Subtitles are then added to the video.

The style and position of the subtitles burned into the video are fixed - these are the expected styles and positions for compliance with closed-captioning requirements.

The timing of the subtitles is tied to the video and can not be changed. If one word is replaced with 15 words, the subtitles will show on screen for the same time as the original word.

Edit Subtitles

  1. In the Editor, click Text editor.

  1. Make changes to the transcript so the subtitles are accurate. For example, “S and P 500” to “S&P 500”

  1. Subtitles are then updated in the video.

Additional Notes

  • This feature is not overdubbing. If the person in the video says Bagel, and you change the transcript from Bagel to Toast, the video will still say Bagel.

  • Subtitles are not translated, but spoken languages other than English are supported—the complete list of supported languages.

  • The downloadable transcript files will include any changes made during editing, whether or not the subtitles have been burned into the video.
